Without getting into too deeply, what most test-takers need to know about the HSK test is that while the structure mostly remains the same between two successive levels, the vocabulary doubles. Using basic math, you’ll find that you’ll know 2^5 more times — or 32 times — vocabulary by the time you pass level 6 of the HSK. This is not a simple feat.
